The Grantham Canal Partnership


The Partnership is the ‘umbrella’ organisation, leading and coordinating all matters concerning the Canal. It was formally established in 1997 and re-vitalised in 2004, under the Chairmanship of Tony Wilkinson

‘The purpose of the Partnership is to promote the sustainable restoration of the Grantham Canal to full navigable status, doing so in such a way as to conserve its character and the environment and enhance the communities along its 33-mile corridor’

 

The Partnership Executive

The Executive consists of:

  • A core team of:

  • Representatives of:

    • British Waterways – owners of the Canal and navigation authority – Neil Harvey, Customer Operations Manager

    • The 6 Local Authorities through which the Canal passes (see below)

    • Natural England – guardians of the Canal’s environment and especially the Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) – Anna Collins, Planning & Biodiversity Advisor

    • The 6 special interest sub-groups (see below)

    • The Inland Waterways Association – John Baylis

    • The Grantham Canal Society – Mike Stone

Local Authority Representatives

Local Authority representatives may be elected Councillors or Officers, currently they are:

  • Lincolnshire County Council – Cllr. Roy Chapman

  • South Kesteven District Council – Cllr. Frances Cartwright & Neil Cuttell

  • Leicestershire County Council – Cllr. Byron Rhodes

  • Melton Borough Council – Cllr. Richard Umbers

  • Nottinghamshire County Council – Cllr. Kay Cutts

  • Rushcliffe Borough Council – Cllr. David Bell
