Exxon Mobil VIP Award

Exxon Mobil Provides VIP Award Funding for the Inland Waterways Association for Restoration work on the Grantham Canal

Members of the Notts&Derby branch of The Inland Waterways Association (IWA), and the Grantham Canal Restoration Soc (GCRS), recently spent an evening together at The Shardlow Heritage Centre, near Derby.

Following a guided tour of the excellently restored canal area, and the many associated listed buildings, members attended a presentation of cheques to the IWA, and the GCRS, through the auspices of Mike Snaith, a local employee of Exxon Mobil and Branch Planning Officer of the IWA.

At the Heritage Centre Mike explained the Exxon Mobil, “Volunteer Involvement Programme (VIP) – supporting volunteers in the local community”. If an employee is involved in their spare time with work for volunteer or charity organisations they are encouraged to apply for a VIP award. The awards are based on the employee earning £12.50 from Exxon Mobil for each hour worked on behalf of the volunteer organisation, up to a maximum of £1000 per year.

A second presentation was also made by Nancy Johnson of a cheque to Colin Bryan, Projects Manager of the GCRS, towards the restoration programme on Denton slipway and public amenity area, on the Grantham Canal. As a result, another section of the Grantham Canal has been regenerated for the use of the local community.
