WRG - GCRS - Stump pulling in the Blue Hill section - Report by Colin Bryan

29th -30th April May bank holiday weekend, saw the combined team of Essex and Northwest WRG together with our local GCRS team decimate the fast regrowing willows left in the bed after the 2004 Bonfire bash on the Grantham Canal.at the Blue hill bridge to Fishponds culvert section. Special permission had been obtained from BW for just these trees, as we were working within nesting season.

Plenty to go at!

Just within welly depth but with the help of the odd youngman board, the combined group made impressive progress along the section, using just hand tools and tirfors. We also removed a large fallen tree branch which was logged and stacked in an eco friendly pile. Plus the broken off  9 mile marker post was re sited, this time on the far bank, measured accurately for correct location by Mr Fred Marsh.

Stumped!

Getting down and dirty!

Our thanks from GCRS to WRG's Lynne Cater (who sadly was burgled at home whilst away on the camp)! and the rest of the team (including Mr Mac MBE and his brew expertise) who stayed over at Colston Bassett village hall.    We look forward to meeting you all again later in the year.
